From OTT to the big screen! Akshay Khanna’s riveting 2021 action drama State of Siege: Temple Attack is roaring back this time in theatres under the powerful new title of Akshardham Operation Vajra Shakti. Inspired by the true story of the 2002 Akshardham Temple attack, the film lands in theatres across the country on July 4, 2025.

ZEE5 first released State of Siege: Temple on their platform in 2021, during the boom for OTTs following the pandemic. The film was wellreceived. It was praised for its realistic storytelling and impressive performance by Khanna as Major Hanut Singh, an NSG commando. Now, almost five years later, the very same film is receiving a completely rebranded, theatrical release; a rare move that speaks to the relevance of the film and increasing fanbase.
Plot: Terror Encounters Courage– Written and directed by Ken Ghosh, the film is a dramatized retelling of the 2002 Akshardham Temple attack in Gujarat, which had a counter-operation by India’s elite NSG commandos. It tells the story of tensions, courage and sacrifice to stop civilians from being killed by another act of terror on Indian soil.
